THE RORURAL TOURISM COMPANY

The B&B is located in an environment rich in naturalistic ideas with 10 hectares of cork forest and countless endemic Mediterranean varieties.

The blue Tyrrhenian Sea is the backdrop with the Aeolian Islands on the horizon.

The spaces of the countryside that surrounds the central complex of Turismo Rurale Cefalù consist of olive trees and fruit trees gardens. The main agricultural activities are olive growing, forestry and horticulture.

In the centre of the garden stands a large hackberry, an almost twenty meters high tree with a short and robust trunk characterized by powerful ribs which blooms between April and May. Its large branches provide areas of shade in summer thanks to a rather dense, expanded, almost perfectly rounded foliage. It is a very long-lived, to the point of becoming centuries-old, teaching the art of patience and resilience even in adverse conditions as only nature can do being the perfect metaphor of life.

Cefalù

Cefalù is a concentration of treasures, a seaside city with a fascinating culture that deserves an in-depth visit.

Its origins date back to the 4th century B.C. but it was under Norman rule that it grew in great splendour with the expansion of the urban structure and the construction of the Cathedral commissioned by King Roger II. The Greeks called it Kephaloidion (chief, head), from the shape of the fortress that dominates it, a term which in the local dialect was transformed into Cifalò and then into Cefalù.

If you have only one day to visit the city, the following is an itinerary that will allow you to discover the main places of interest. Start your day by visiting the magnificent Cathedral of Cefalù, one of the jewels of Norman architecture in Sicily, admire its imposing towers, the refined thirteenth-century façade, the decorative details, the grandiose interior with three naves and the precious Byzantine mosaics on a gold background that decorate the walls and vault of the church. After visiting the Duomo and enjoying a good lemon granita in one of the historic bars in the centre, it is time to have a walk along the Cefalù seafront.

Continue your day in Cefalù by visiting the Mandralisca Museum, which houses a rich collection of art and historical artefacts, including the famous "Portrait of an Unknown Man" by Antonello da Messina dated 1470. The climb to the Rocca di Cefalù is a little more challenging: it is the rocky promontory at the foot of which the seaside village develops, but once at the top all your effort will be rewarded in the presence of a breath-taking view of the city and the sea. The hike to the top may take a little time, but it's so worth it.

The streets of the historic centre of Cefalù are a concentration of beauty, colour and Sicilian folklore: you can admire the traditional architecture, go shopping in the local boutiques and taste the delicacies of Sicilian cuisine in the numerous restaurants that overlook every alley. Before concluding this day, treat yourself to a little relaxation on the splendid beach of Cefalù kissed by the sun that shines on our island.

Main points of interest in Cefalù

Cefalù Cathedral: built in 1131 by Roger II, one of the greatest examples of Norman art and architecture in Sicily

The Rocca of Cefalù: overlooks the city and offers suggestive views and exciting sunsets

Mandralisca Museum: displays the archaeological and artistic collections that Baron Enrico Piraino of Mandralisca gathered in the last century

The Madonie

The Madonie are a jewel of natural, historical and landscape beauty that time has not corrupted. Destination for itineraries full of emotion, they represent one of the most fascinating areas of Sicily. The Madonie extend like a short mountain ridge along the Tyrrhenian coast of the island, embracing the sea with their majesty.

The Madonie Park is a true treasure to explore, where natural paths intertwine between picturesque villages to tell a story rich in local traditions. Covered by thick wood, it is home to over half of the Sicilian plant species and in particular a large part of those exists only in Sicily. The varied fauna consists of more than half of the bird species, all the mammal species and more than half of the Sicilian invertebrate species. The small inhabited centres, located radially around the central massif, are rich in history, archaeology and traditions to discover.

Castelbuono

Castelbuono is an enchanting village on the slopes of the Madonie Mountains, ideal for a day trip during your stay at Turismo Rurale Cefalù.

The Ventimiglia Castle is unmissable. The name of Castelbuono originates from the fact that today's town developed around the castle built in 1316 by Francesco I Ventimiglia. The medieval castle with square corner towers is one of the main visited tourist-cultural sites today in the village. The heart of Castelbuono is its charming historic centre, characterized by narrow paved alleys and ancient stone buildings. Walking through its streets is like taking a journey back in time, among artisan shops and picturesque courtyards.
